S.T.A.R. exfoliation

Skin rejuvenating laser exfoliation with SkinTyte-II. skin tightening

An effective treatment of severe skin damage caused by the sun, based on laser exfoliation and the tightening of the collagen of the dermis. UV damage is a factor in skin surface alterations (pigment patches, wrinkles) as well as in the weakening of the fibre and loss of flexibility of the skin. In the course of S.T.A.R. exfoliation, the Erbium-based tuneable resurfacing laser evaporates the top layers of the skin with the help of a scanner. The high-precision tool performs real peeling, unlike the consequential peeling caused by the fractionated CO2 lasers as the secondary side effect of the damage to the top skin layers caused by heating, which cannot be planned as precisely as with the Erbium-based tuneable resurfacing laser. Prior to exfoliation, the collagen fibres are tightened with a pulsing infrared light which also triggers the production of new collagen and flexible fibres.

Recommended for

Those whose facial skin has become wrinkled due to chronic exposure to sun or solarium use and has also lost its flexibility and tightness. Those whose skin has begun to droop on the two sides of the face or around the jaw, turning the oval shape of the face into an angular one. Those for whom the result of plastic facelift surgery is unsatisfactory because the quality of the skin was not rejuvenated. Those who are willing to undergo a treatment that involves ablation to the skin and a few days of recovery period to achieve a spectacular effect.

Treatable skin surfaces?

The two sides of the face, the forehead alone, the whole face, the neck and the cleavage or the upper part of the back.

Preparation

S.T.A.R. exfoliation is arranged by appointment, as it cannot be performed on the day of examination. Patients need to take acyclovir pills from one day prior to the treatment for 10 consecutive days (in order to avoid any effect causing a sudden flare up of herpes, which may occur after treatments involving a skin injury).

The treatment

The first step of the S.T.A.R. exfoliation is a SkinTyte-II tightening treatment, in the course of which a cooled hand piece is in contact with the skin surface and issues a series of impulses. Then we use a high-speed and high-accuracy scanner to evaporate the top layers of the skin. The depth of the intervention can be set accurately on the equipment and thereby we can plan the recovery period. The smoke is extracted with a medical smoke extractor system equipped with HEPA filters thus preventing inhalation by the patient or the treating staff. The treatment may cause discomfort, and therefore we use a pain relief cream in advance. The S.T.A.R. exfoliation is also available under light sedation and, in conjunction with major interventions, under deep sedation.

Ability to work, nursing at home

The injury to the skin appearing over the entire skin surface treated with S.T.A.R. exfoliation can cause redness, light weeping or eyelid swelling (oedema), even if the eyelids are not treated separately, and therefore the patient is unable to work for a few days. The skin surface below those layers removed with the laser forms a dry, brownish sheet, which cracks and peels off after a few days. After the peeling, the fresh, young skin layers become visible. Following the treatment, the skin requires careful nursing at home, though makeup can be applied after a week. We recommend avoiding exposure to light for 3 months after the treatment.

Number of treatments

One treatment is effective but, with a smaller depth of intervention that involves faster recovery (2-3 days), the treatment can be repeated.

Scientific background of the treatment

S.T.A.R. exfoliation is based on the Erbium:YAG laser and the SkinTyte-II. pulsing infrared technology developed by Sciton Inc., a US laser manufacturing company. With a Tuneable Resurfacing Laser the recovery period can be planned and a safe intervention depth can be set for each skin surface (to avoid the scarring which developed with the use of the earlier CO2 exfoliation lasers on the neck and cleavage). Led by Dr Gábor Varju, Dr Derm Anti-Aging Dermatology, Aesthetic Laser and Plastic Surgery was the first institution to use the equipment and the related treatment method in Hungary.

Cost of the treatment

The price of MicroLaserPeel exfoliation varies between HUF 240,000 and HUF 330,000. Other treatment combinations are available at further cost. The above treatment price involves local anaesthesia but does not include light sedation or deep anaesthesia.
